This modern house is situated on a south-facing desert slope and extends a prominent flow of pinkish stone with a simple elevated plinth that parallels the contours of the site. Hovering above the plinth is a large shade canopy that embodies the necessary sustenance for this shelter as a home: The thickened canopy harvests most of the energy and some of the water needed for the carbon-neutral house while also housing all mechanicals. Overall glass is minimized while framing focused views and a range of indoor/outdoor living. Richlite supports the specific aesthetic through the cladding, interior finishes and countertops.
