This past summer the creative team here at Richlite traveled around the UK and met up with some of our favorite makers, designers, and architects who frequently use our material in exciting new ways.
We started our trip in the bustling city of Bristol, England and met up with brothers Tom & Rowan Meacock at Shape Studio. The Meacocks founded Shape in 2014 with the intention to creatively push the boundaries of fabrication. It all started with a laser cutter and dream to build, create and shape ideas into tangible objects. Four years later they have grown from a team of two to a team five, from a small basement to a large industrial workspace.
Tom and Rowan come from generations of architects, so it’s easy to see that design comes easy for them. When Tom isn’t managing the ins and outs of the business he is usually applying his in-depth architectural design knowledge to a 3D model or CAD software. Rowan is more hands on with his creativity and you can often find him welding in the shop, brainstorming new fabrication methods, or immersed in a new material. Together they make an excellent team, a harmonious blend of skills where creativity meets functional design.
These two can’t get enough of Richlite, and utilize it in most of their projects. The versatility of the material allows them to apply it to countless situations from furniture, signs, countertops and beyond. For them, Richlite’s structural integrity also makes it useful for all sorts of design and structural solutions where wood or other composites just wouldn’t hold up. They even made a beautiful paddle ball set out of our Blue Canyon colorway (viewable in our shop).
It’s hard not to leave feeling inspired after spending a few days with these two. If you’re in the UK and have a custom project in mind, be sure to connect with our friends at Shape.
