The Boston Harley-Davidson retail space consists of a 50,000-square-foot showroom and service center with an adjacent 25,000-square-foot long-term motorcycle storage facility. An extensive programming phase coupled with feedback from each of the various departments was necessary to ensure proper adjacencies and highly efficient circulation. The use of an existing building with a large CMU demising wall created several issues with the existing space but allowed for a unique solution utilizing an interior and exterior brace frame that would become the major defining elements of the design. Due to Harley-Davidson's push for green design, the entire rooftop is covered in photovoltaics that also act as rooftop ballasts, beautifully clad in Richlite Natural and Slate.
