The Seattle Aquarium’s Ocean Pavilion, designed by LMN Architects and named the 2024 Best of Year winner for Environmental Impact, sets a new standard in environmental stewardship. This 50,000-square-foot addition combines organic architecture, all-electric systems, and water-saving practices, reflecting the Aquarium’s commitment to ocean conservation. Richlite recycled-paper panels create a refined donor wall, add warmth to the staircase, and enhance the ceiling, which was designed in collaboration with artist Dan Friday of Friday Glass. Featured color shown in Slate.
The Pavilion links Seattle’s waterfront and iconic landmarks while offering immersive marine experiences, including One Ocean Hall and The Reef, emphasizing the interconnectedness of all waters. Honoring the traditional lands of the Coast Salish peoples, the project incorporates cultural input into its design, exhibits, and public art. LEED Gold certified and targeting Zero Carbon, the Pavilion demonstrates that sustainability, durability, and beauty can coexist.
